AFROPUNK’s Joburg Festival is the ultimate New Year’s Party, and Mobile Media Mob were tasked to capture, create, produce and finalise it all – the crazy-cool acts, as well as the artist interviews, the killer Festival looks, the build-up and behind-the-scenes, not just for AFROPUNK, but also for their sponsors, partners and media affiliates and outlets.
AFROPUNK’s theme for 2019 was “WE SEE YOU” – striking a chord with the zeitgeist across the globe – current affairs, societal issues and human narratives which need to be recognised, challenged and celebrated. Realtalk from the global community captured and condensed.
PUMA was dropping another intergalactic pair of sneakers – the RS 9.8 COSMIC! To hike up the hype, the star of the shoot would be Nasty C – one of SA’s most formidable rappers. MMM needed to show him in the shoes, but with no additional apparel in the collection, we had to steer clear of using any other PUMA gear.
Pernod Ricard Sub-Saharan Africa (PRSSA) was planning a big push of their top-shelf brands. The budget wasn’t bottomless, and time was tight. We needed a solution which was as speedy, as it was smart.
In 2018, AFROPUNK collaborated with Hyundai, wanting to make some noise about the upcoming Joburg Festival, and the new Hyundai Kona. AFROPUNK fans were invited to flaunt their ‘Politics of Style’, indicative of the festival and its community.
